How To Get Your AC Ready For Summer

Whew! How is it possible that it’s this hot already?! It’s not even officially summer and we’ve already seen temperatures near 100 degrees. National is here to help you get your AC ready for summer with our handy list!

(1) Change The Filter

This is the easiest, least expensive thing you can do to help your air conditioning unit. Replacement filters are inexpensive and can be purchased at many different stores, including grocery chains. These filters definitely need to be changed before the start of the heat season. They keep out allergy particles, including dust, pollen, and animal dander. A clean filter helps push through cool air more easily, resulting in less stress on your unit.

(2) Use That Thermostat

A programmable thermostat not only helps you keep your utility bills down, it helps your air conditioning unit perform at better capacity! Traditional thermostats keep the unit running constantly. With a programmable thermostat, your AC only turns on when temperatures reach a certain threshold, as determined by you. It’s WIN-WIN!

(3) Blow Out Your Condensation Line

Imagine cracking open an ice cold soda on a hot day. The can immediately starts “sweating” and water condensation accumulates in droplets on the exterior of the can. Your AC unit works similarly. When warm air meets the cooling mechanism of your AC evaporator, those little water droplets form, too…and they have to go somewhere! Most units have a drain that ties into your plumbing or runs outside. However, over time, that drain can get backed up, which can cause massive leaks and damages. Using an air compressor to blow out any potential clogs can easily prevent this.

(4) Do Some Yard Work

Make sure that there are no branches, leaves, or dirt piled on top of your exterior AC condenser, as items blocking the fan blades can damage the unit. A little preventative maintenance is worth saving the cost of big repairs.

We hope we’ve been able to give you some tips on how to get your AC ready for summer. If you’re not sure about how to accomplish these tasks, you can always set up an AC seasonal service request with us. National is here…Any Season, Any Reason!
